Supine bike exercise Stress echocardiography

Dr Chia is thrilled to offer the community this highly specialised service, which is not available anywhere else in the area.

The supine bicycle stress echocardiogram is an unique alternative to the traditional treadmill stress echocardiography test for coronary artery disease. It is ideal for patients with:

  • co-ordination or gait difficulties

  • back or joint problems

  • pre-operative assessment for orthopaedic patients

This test can also provide valuable functional and prognostic information, which is either not possible with treadmill testing, or without exposing patients to ionising radiation such as with nuclear scans or CT coronary angiography.

Moreover, the supine bike is an excellent test for patients with valvular heart disease, such as mitral regurgitation or aortic stenosis. It allows for simultaneous haemodynamic and valvular assessment at peak exercise, providing a more comprehensive evaluation than standard stress echocardiography.

It is also an ideal test for the assessment of pulmonary hypertension, especially in patients with connective tissue disease who may have mobility issues. Dr Chia's research interests in right ventricular function in patients with or suspected to have pulmonary hypertension make her the perfect expert to lead this investigation.

Dr Chia is excited to offer our community the services of the Supine Bicycle Stress Echocardiography, along with her expertise. This investigation represents a major advancement in cardiovascular medicine and offers patients a non-invasive, radiation-free alternative for their diagnostic needs.
